The Big Moon Dig

Finding a Theme Song

Pick a Winner Game

The Big Moon Dig - Return with us now to the Moon as we are preparing the ground for a real lunar settlement through study, simulations, team building, and exploration.

  1. Finding a Theme Song

Essays are fine and necessary, but they rarely grab you. What we need is a theme song that will hit people in the gut. Here are a few nominations:

  2. The Nominations are:

You can either vote for one of the current nominees or suggest an alternative:

    1. Leonard Cohen, "Hallelujah" (Lyric) (Video) -- Our awe at the magnificent desolation of the Moon by now is certainly a broken hallelujah, but from our lips she will again draw that seminal hallelujah. We intend to mend the break and rediscover both our personal and now cloud hallelujahs. Love is not a flag on a marble arch, but it can be a burned out cosmonaut in "the Dark of the Moon". What's it too you?
      * This Song has a score of ___ out of___"

    2. Gordon Lightfoot, "Race Among the Ruins" (Lyric) (Video) -- When you wake up to the promise of your dream world coming true, you will have one less friend to call on. Who is that friend for you; is it Neal Armstrong, Steve Jobs, or Carl Saigon. If we are going to face tomorrow, we must certainly do it soon, and we will. Are you ready for that wake up call?
      * This Song has a score of ___ out of___"

    3. Diane Warren, "Where My Heart Will Take Me" (Lyric) (Video) -- If we are to become a space fairing people, then we must first refind our vision. And, if we are to face the great problems of the 21st century, then we will often need to fall back on that vision. This theme from "Enterprise, Star Trek" is the only space theme song worth repeating.
      * This Song has a score of ___ out of___"

    4. Towns Van Zandt, "Snowin' on Raton" (Lyric) (Video) -- Bid the years goodbye, you cannot still them; you cannot stop the circles of the Sun. You cannot count the miles until you feel them, but I am thankful that old road is a friend of mine. I will hear the silence that they are keeping and I will bring all their promises to you. Come mornin' I'll be through those hills and gone.
      * This Song has a score of ___ out of___"

    5. Michel Legrand, "Windmills of Your Mind" (Lyric) (Video) -- Even if it is all in our minds and even it is all circles within circles, still we must and will find a path forward. But then, Newtonian mechanics is always circles within circles and Newton often flies our spacecraft.
      * This Song has a score of ___ out of___"

    6. Pat Humphries, "Swimming to the Other Side" (Lyric) (Video) -- We must soon pass over one of the great watersheds in human history; the move to sustainability. We can reach the other side if we all swim together. This song is now the theme of the grass roots ecology movement and shows what only a good theme song can do.
      * This Song has a score of ___ out of___"

    7. Emily Barker, "Nostalgia" (lyric) (Video) -- Sometimes there are doors in front of us that shouldn't be there, and 12,000 miles separation from the things we have loved is merely the start of our chosen journey. So, write me a beacon so I know the way and only the Moon understands the beauty of this love. This theme from "Wallander" is both dark and haunting.
      * This Song has a score of ___ out of___"
