The Big Moon Dig
Plots for New Stories
The Big Moon Dig - Return with us now to the Moon as we are preparing the ground for a real lunar settlement through study, simulations, team building, and exploration.
Plots for New Stories:
If you are a fiction writer and would like to contribute to our effort, here are some story plots we need written up:
- "The Tomato Tree" -- Our hero from "The Lunar Viper", Eric Stonebridge, has been orphaned on the Moon. How did that happen. What we know is that is mother was killed in an accident exploring a lava tube and his father developed health problems the forced him to return to Earth while again from health reasons, the boy must remain on the Moon. This small story is simply his father saying goodby.
The story is basically one scene. It is set in the lunar settlement farm which is a cylinder laying ont its side about 9 meters in diameter and 40 meters long. Most of the space is taken up with hydroponic tanks with plants of various types growing in them. In the middle is a very large tomatto plant that is about 5 year old and fills much of the middle 20 meters of the farm. Massive amounts of fruit hang under the supported branches of this plant. The lighting is artifical and bright. The air is warm, humid, and rather musty.
The boy's mother was a Russian cosmonaut and his farther is a Native American physicist of the Navjo tribe. Neither farther or son are easy with the situation, but they have no choice.
- "The Water Road to Haworth" -- This story is a follow on to "The Big Moon Dig" but is about a different team with a different task. This new team is trying to blaze a trail from the Mt. Malapert constrution site down the mountain to the critical water source in the perminately dark Crater Haworth. The path is step and tregious, the communication back to base is tricky, and the rover is solar powered but the Sun is blocked for days at a time.
The stoy truns on how the people of the team react to the problems along the way.
- Cephei's Dragons is now only a half complete graphic storyboard, but could be a story in our Big Moon Dig Series:

Young Adult Style
Our stories and games are written in a style for Young Adults. That is with little sex or violence and no crude language. We find this style choice attractive to students, educators, and sponsors, while it harkens back to the golden age of the science fiction short story between 1930 and 1960.
Technical Background Development:
We have only just start the process of developing games based on our short stories as well as writing new ones but we have developed several technical papers detailing the environment we are writing in.
- The Big Moon Dig Game Design Document, -- Details on what actions we must take to make the Big Moon Dig happen.
- Lunar Settlement Lite Game, Location, Step 01 -- One of our first tasks is to choose a location for our lunar settlement.
- Lunar Settlement Lite Game, Habitat, Step 02 -- Next we must make many critical design choices for our design of a lunar settlement.
- Lunar Settlement Lite Game, Ores, Step 03 -- Here is our third game that is now under development. It is a discussion of lunar ores and how to find them.
